Beekeeping 101 – Honeybees and Beekeeping
Learn about the honeybee species Apis mellifera and how humans keep and tend them and help the beekeeping community. Topics will range from basic biology of the individual honeybee and the colony structure, to the basic understanding of beekeeping, including frames, boxes, clothing, smoker, and hive tools.
Beekeeping 201 – Hive Inspection & Logs
You will be learning the fundamentals for performing a hive inspection. We will focus on minimizing both the damage to the honeybees and the hive equipment as well as the signs to look for in a healthy colony. Images will be used to demonstrate typical and healthy hives. We will finish with the importance of hive logs and tracking your data over time.

Returning to instruct these courses is Danny Najera. Danny is a Kent-Meridian graduate, and Oklahoma native. He earned his Bachelors and PhD from the University of Kansas and he is an Entomologist, Ecologist, and a professor. He has taught at several colleges and universities, including the University of Kansas, and is currently instructing biology courses at Green River College. He recently received tenure and leads the Green River College Honeybees program.
You can register for the class by coming into our store or over the phone at 425-432-1213. Payment must be received to secure a seat. Credit card payments over the phone require a 3% fee. Dress warmly, we have heaters but the classroom is chilly in the winter seasons.
