Branded as a no-nonsense course and designed to illustrate the full scope of work a potential beekeeper must be prepared to tackle, our Beekeeping 101 courses cover the science of honeybee anatomy and colony and hive life-cycles, as well as what to expect when considering beekeeping, including the risks and challenges. In 201, our goal is to give you the information you need to decide whether beekeeping is right for you. We dive deep in examining the equipment and supplies involved in beekeeping, the time and energy demand, and the various inevitabilities; from (many) stings to ruined tools. We also critically discuss the management of the cataclysmic varroa mite and the challenges it will inevitably bring to your hives. We try our best to prepare you for the worst-case scenario so you’re unsurprised if and when it turns out to be a difficult venture. Regardless, you’re sure to leave feeling armed with the basic knowledge needed to succeed.

$60 per student. We typically offer the 101 and 201 classes back-to-back for a reduced $100 total, as they’re designed to be taken together.
We host entry-level Beekeeping 101 classes in late Winter and early Spring, in the lead up to what we call “bee season,” which begins around mid-April. Once bee season begins, we typically host more advanced “Beekeeper for a day” classes at our Greenwater Apiary. Classes are scheduled based on demand and open availability, but we try to offer our classes at least twice each year, for those who may be unable to attend one date or another.
We cannot accept jars as an exchange at our pop-ups, the refill system is only available at our store location where we have around 10 different honey types “on-tap” year round. You’re more than welcome to recycle your jar with us at a market or event, but we cannot do a discount or exchange for the jar.
We try to make our product super accessible! While we do many farmers markets, Christmas markets and garden shows, we also sell here on our website, and we also sell at several local retailers in the area. You can find the full list here! We also have our store that is open everyday in Maple Valley. You can find the most variety of products at our store front, and don’t forget to say hi to Sparta the cat!
