Beekeeping 401: Beekeeper for a day! Saturday 8/27 & Sunday 8/28/16

1st class:  8/27/16 8am – 10am Rockridge Orchards (Meet at Bees in the ‘Burbs 7:30am)

2nd class: 8/27/16 2pm – 4pm  Mary Olsen Farm & Soos Creek (meet at Mary Olsen Farm in Kent)

3rd class: 8/28/16 9am – 11am  Mt Si Nursey North Bend (Meet at Mt Si Nursey 8:45am)

•REQUIRED: Bee Suit (Full Coverall with Veil) & Gloves

We have an awesome opportunity for 10 people per class to join us for a day of beekeeping!

Time to BUST those mites!  We will be applying MAQS (Mite Away Quick Strips) to our colonies.  Learn how to apply them to various types of various types of colonies to maximize the effect.  The varroa mite is the BIGGEST problem in beekeeping and the best thing you can do to keep your bees healthy is to combat them.  Learn how to do this.

Please note that this is the most important class we will be giving this year.  We highly recommend that ALL beekeepers learn about mites and mite control.

The cost of this class will be $50 and is NON-REFUNDABLE.  The class will be taught by Danny Najera. 

 You will need to bring the following:

•Snacks/drinks
•Bee Suit (Full Coverall with Veil) & GlovesThe class is non-refundable due to the fact that it is a small class & fills up very fast.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE CLASS WITHOUT A FULL COVERALL WITH A VEIL!  We have Suits available at our store.

You may also be required to lift heavy bee boxes.We will provide the rest of the tools that are needed, smokers etc,

About Danny.  A Kent-Meridian graduate, and Oklahoma native, Danny Najera earned his Bachelors and PhD from the University of Kansas and considers himself a scientist (Entomologist and Ecologist) and a teacher. He has taught at several colleges and universities, including the University of Kansas, and is currently instructing at Green River Community College. Danny is on the board of trustees for the Puget Sound Keepers Association and is married with two kids.
