Beekeeping 203 – Hive Organization

In this class we will cover the basics of colony organization. Where do honeybees want to store their brood? What about the honey? First we will start off with informational posters to precisely document what we will be looking for, then we will utilize this knowledge to assess and manage live colonies. Special care will be given to focus on identification of parts, quantify those parts, and then choose a management strategy. This is important to help guide the honeybees towards the production you want. Please note, you’re required to have protective beekeeping wear for this course.

Returning to instruct both courses is Danny Najera. Danny earned his Bachelors and PhD from the University of Kansas and considers himself a scientist (Entomologist and Ecologist) and a teacher. He has taught at several colleges and universities, including the University of Kansas, and is currently instructing at Green River Community College. Danny is on the board of trustees for the Puget Sound Keepers Association and is married with two kids.

The cost for each course is $35.00. Your spot on the roster will be reserved upon payment. We’re so pleased our classes have been filling up, but because they have, we encourage you to not delay in registering.

We’re grateful for your continued support and encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Norm Holcomb
